Boomtown Tunnel Question

Does anyone know when the Boomtown Tunnel opened up?

Never mind, folks. I found it. According to a newspaper ad, the tunnel opened for the 1972 season.

That refers to the walkway which connected Modern and Boomtown, near where the Pandemonium and games are now.

The park built a cover over the top and sides of the walkway using a wire grid, like a chain link fence. They then planted vines, which grew on top of it. This created a walkway which went through the plants and provided a lot of shade and made it cooler. It wasn't an attraction in and of itself.

I remember it being very humid and hot. Instead of it providing shade to give heat relief it seemed to hold it in like an oven. Not the effect they were trying for I guess.

I will say though it was real awesome. We used to always go through it because of the natural effects of being surrounded by green. It is one of the things I wish was still there to show my younguns.

Fiesta Texas has one, on the walkway between SkyScreamer and Crackaxle Canyon.

It was a haven for bees, but it was a nice little area isolated from the buzz of park activity.

I remember the walkway vividly, though I only remember the location vaguely... seems like it was kind of where the Food Court is now... I think part of the infrastructure might still be in place behind Modern restrooms and the food court in the back area.

Yup, it's still back there. That's the path we took to get to OP3 at Rapids. Behind the Acme Rocket, right before you got to the back of Sponge Bob's or whatever it is now,.
