I was also thinking it had something to do with deterioration of the trestle itself, I know they found a few rotten timbers in at least one of the mine train trestle bents which caused a little dip when the train went over it. This was not something that SFOT maintenance repaired, like they did many times before they hired an outside railroad contractor which was a pretty expensive repair. I think the trestle at Goodtimes Square was getting to the point that it needed some serious maintenance, but I am pretty sure when they saw what it was going to cost they opted just to fill it in and make it a crossing.
