Default Sky Hook

Has anyone here actually been on the sky hook? How was it?

Question Technically yes, but ...

I remember being on it when I was very small -- as in, too small to really remember more than having been on it.

I rode it as a kid at SFOT and as a teen on one of the park sponsored trips to either Georgia or Mid-America, I don't remember which. Compared to today's thrill rides it was very tame. It was essentially a ride on a very slow, very exposed elevator. To survive today they'd have to spin the tower fast enough to make the cages go horizontal, or make the cages bang together like a pair of clackers.

Still, for the times it was a very cool ride.

Does anyone know a source for detailed photos/plans of the skyhook? I'd like to make a 3D computer model of it.

I've got some pictures I'll email you.
Most of them are about the same distance away and show the same detail.
I haven't seen any plans.

Send me a private message with an email and I'll send you some.

If you are interested in the general ride, and not just the Six Flags version, I also have a shot or two of one that has four baskets.

Hey, didn't I see something like that in the opening scenes of Spy Kids II: The Island of Lost Dreams?

But seriously, folks, how many of you knew that, yes, the opening part of that movie was indeed shot at SFOT? You see the the Front Gate, the Titan, the Tower and the Gotham City area.

Someone wrote a history of this ride once with photos. Does anyone know the link? Maybe it was Scott Jordan?

Scott wrote an article for Amusementpark.com.
His amusementpark.com articles are no longer on-line.
I think I have a print out of it, but I don't think I have it in an electronic format to post.

I posted some additional pictures at:

Here are some:
