Went by: Miss Larry Gentry (not!)

Seasons worked: 1976-1991

Funny Story or happening:

No funny stories in particular and so many details get lost with time. But even now, at the strangest times, some old memory from my Six Flags days plays like a movie in my brain and it warms my soul. I know I wasn't very good about keeping in touch with so many people, but they're in my heart and mind in ways I never would've guessed at the time. I hope each of you is having a happy life.

Danny Lakey

Seasons worked: 1985-1992

Funny Story or happening:

I have wonderful memories from my years at the park and too many stories to tell. Most of which would probably ban my childern from working at the park if I told them here. But I do remember someone sticking a straw in the exposed crack of an officer from Astroworld that bragged once too often about how great they were. He didn't even know it was there. I think I came to tears over that one.

People to find: Anyone that I worked with in my 7 years at the park

Other info: I am living in Arlington again where I have a beautiful wife and 2 great children. Maybe they will be third generation park employees.

Douglas Beers

Seasons worked: 1970-74

Funny Story or happening:

On a May Saturday Bruce Davidson of Flume 1 put me on dispatch and told me to send logs out as quickly as possible and "keep em coming" so we could operate at capacity. Well, I did a great job... even for 220 minutes after the high lift stopped. A "lift off" usually means 6-8 logs at the belt, I managed about 34. Jacques deMont was just starting as supervisor that week and he couldn't believe anybody was that dumb...
How bout when I was working on Skull Island and I saw smoke pouring out of the Chaps cars and called the Fire dept.....It was just the train belching out carbon......

Larry Gentry

went by: Brother Bucko

Seasons worked: 1976-1991

Funny story or happening:

Twenty-five years ago, I was spending the first part of my summer working at the Boomtown Electronic Shooting Gallery before transferring to Flume II for the rest of the summer. Today, I'm looking out my fifteenth floor window across Silicon Valley.

It's hard to believe that so many years have gone by. I really don't go back and spend too much time thinking about times gone by, in fact, I didn't keep many photographs, yearbooks, etc. from my Six Flags days. But when I happen to stumble across a old photograph, an old letter, or hear an old song on the radio, it takes me back to some of the happiest and yet, most troubled, times of my life.

Oddly enough, the past couple of years have been the best part of my life so far. I finally came to term with my sexuality and have been living my life as a gay man. For those of you who had any bets on this, time to collect and/or pay up! For those of you who are offended, I apologize for ruining any memories for you. Seriously, I suspect that most of you don't care about these things either way.

Reading over the "people you'd like to find" sections, I'm a bit amused to see that not many people are looking for me on this web site and, at the same time, very flattered that I am remembered at all.

I hope that this posting finds you healthy, happy, and loved.

Daryl Dalton

Seasons worked: 1986-1993

Funny story or happening:

One Saturday back in '90, while coming down out of the Mine Train Driver's box for a much-needed break (I was the only 4 train driver that day), I twisted both of my ankles! It was so embarassing! Since I couldn't walk, that little golf cart/ambulance had to come get me-- in front of a FULL cue house. (They had to get the guests to move out of the way so they could get me out!) And, of course, as we were riding to First Aid, I managed to pass about 20 of my friends. That was NOT a good day I was the only injury listed in the records for Mine Train, a title I would have loved to give to someone else.

Donna Farmer

went by: Donna Wald

Seasons worked: 1977 - 1982

Funny story or happening:

My first year at SFOT I worked in Sippers. My best friend worked at Casa. Her name was "Donna" also. All of our friends called me "Donna Sipper" and her "Donna Casa". She moved that same summer to the Frogurt stand and naturally her name changed to "Donna Frogurt".

While I was at work one night a bunch of the guys from Cash Control 2 actually picked-up my small FIAT convertible and moved it to another parking space. When I got off work that night I couldn't find my car! This all occurred in the parking lot behind the Games Warehouse and CC2!

Dave Foti

went by: Foti

Seasons worked: 1985 - 1991

Funny story or happening:

I remember back in 1985 when Arlington was a much cooler place to live that SFOT was the best (only) place around to work as a high schooler.

SFOT was a great experience and a great place to make friends. If you couldn't get a date working at SFOT you had some serious issues. Anyway, every girl I've ever dated seriously (this includes college in Austin) had worked at SFOT.

I remember thinking how cool it was working out there for 6 years so that I had an employee ID with every flag (somehow I managed to not turn them in - still have them somewhere).

Without a doubt I would go back and relive my SFOT summers!

Mitch Reitman

Seasons worked: 1975 - 1980

Funny story or happening:
  • In 1976 I had come in to work on a weekday afternoon in the spring. They called a bunch of us from our rides to report to the Chute Out. The wind was blowing really hard and they asked us to simply sit in the chairs to try to hold them steady. After about three hours, maintenance people came by and put sandbags in the seats and we returned to our rides. At the tender age of 17, I had been automated out of a job.
  • Lots of memories of deep night shifts in Security in '77, '78, & '79, especially someone who will remain nameless following a skunk to the area where some of the Grounds Quality crew had fallen asleep and then shooting it.
  • when working the front gate in '76 getting a counterfeit $20 bill from a woman who bought a season pass (got her picture and address).
  • in '76 being just 4 hours short of my bonus hours in Operations and having to work night shift on the last day of the month at - the kennels. I still know the dancing tamale tune by hart.
  • in 1977 we were asked to take a woman to the hospital. She had a bulging belly and was screaming in pain. I, assumed that she was pregnant and ran into the ER at Arlington Memorial and told the nurses that she was in labor. Well, it turned out that she was having stomach cramps and was, well, just large.
  • not so funny, but happy ending, I was working traffic at the toll plaza in August 1979. A woman had a heart attack in her car. Her daughter gave her mouth to mouth while I gave her CPR compressions, when the ambulance got there she was breathing. I later found out that she had made it.

Hollie Schmidt

went by: Holly Mahaney

Seasons worked: 1983

Funny story or happening:

I remember once when a visitor paid for a knife(!) in one of the wild west shops with counterfeit money so we all had to be on the look-out for more bad bills. I was hoping I would find one so that very cute guy in Security would have to come talk to me, but alas, no such luck.

I also remember being introduced to the culinary delight of Six Flags fries with gravy. I live in Massachusetts now where they would never dream of putting gravy on french fries. They have no idea what they're missing.

I barely remember the Cash Control party Margo Thorpe mentioned....I do remember it was fun but the details are blurry...

Cash Control definitely had a lasting impact on my life. I can never see a stack of money without having to pick it up, line up all the bills the right way, and count it! Whenever I go out to a restaurant with friends, I always have to be the one to collect and count the money. (They all think I'm neurotic, but really, it's just the months of conditioning that I received!)

I remember those Cash Control Parties at the end of each year...Something I won't share with my kids for years to come. What fun summers we had...My friend Liz Bowers and I were College Students (Oklahoma State University) and moved to Arlington for the summers and had a blast! I have not been back to Six Flags since then but will bring my kids there some day!!!We met so many neat people. We always said Texas had the nicest people.

Bruce Foster

Seasons worked: 1974 - 1998

Funny story or happening:

The Water Balloon game had to be drained of water every year. To do this, you had to put in a long black water hose and suck on it to create a siphon. My friend, supervisor Dennis White, was sucking and sucking, but he could not get the water to drain out. However, he kept at it, assuming that there was something stuck in the hose. He was right! There was a dead rat! none of the girls would kiss him after that!
